Welcome to STA drivers from Londonderry NH

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Welcome to all of the new teamsters at STA in Londonderry NH.

You have made the right decision.

I have been driving for 20 years now and been a teamster for 11.  I will NEVER go back.

I worked for Laidlaw first now First Student.  STA was started by some of the same people that worked for Laidlaw.

Any questions feel free to talk here.  We're all waiting to help you along your path to respect, fair wages and benefits.

PS Thanks Rich I'm back.

Donna

I see that you are welcoming

I see that you are welcoming bus drivers from Londonderry, not everyone in Londonderry wants to be part of the union.    After reading of these numerous blogs, from gatorgirl, you, superuser, derryteamster(robin Loder)(who is now being paid by the union to get more people in & driving around in a new vehicle that let me guess the drivers dues are paying her & rogers salaries.)  I have come to the conclusion that you are all still having issues while they may be slightly different you are all still complaiing about something or another & all having a union has done for you is cost you money, you all dont sound any happier now than you did before.  So im just curious why you would give up your hard earned money to have someone else speak your mind for you.  i know that derry most likely went union to get rid of Red & shes still there.  Jim Booker for a union come on that guy has had it good for a long time, highest paid, refused to drive home to school only charters because that what he was hired for, and all the whole time hes sitting at a table being paid to play cards.  i am a bus driver in another town but have quite a few frineds who drive in Londonderry  & the drivers there are pretty all up in arms about the whole thing  & it has ruined a lot of freindsahips.

I am making $21.59 an hour

I am making $21.59 an hour and I have to thank the Teamsters for that one! Paying a measly $57.00 per month for Union dues, is well worth it, for job security and our high rate of pay!

HI mama of three.   Sorry I

HI mama of three.

Sorry I didn't answer earlier but busy shoveling! Yikes.

Do you work at a union terminal?

This website is for helping each other with issues that may arise.  I don't think that you have read all of the blogs.  I am totally happy that I have gone union.  My terminal is one of the first Teamster terminal around.  I have been union for 11 years.  It is not easy at first.  It takes time to get where you need to be.  My hard earned money is just that.  I feel that it is worth paying for support for myself as the company has no problem taking care of themself.  I like to think of it as an insurance policy for me.

I think that you need some history of how some things have come about.  Salem went union 11 years ago.  At that time Derry also was contemplating going with us.  They decided to remove themselves from the campaign thinking that they could take care of themselves.  They were apeased so to speak.  10 years later though they still were not getting treated the same.  As far as Jim goes he is a good man.  What you may think as "having it good for a long time" may by your supposition.  Do you know for a fact that he sat there and got paid for playing cards?  It's amazing how some people assume things.

The people in Londonderry that are not happy, why are they not happy?  It appears to me that more people were unhappy than they were happy.  Maybe the drivers that are happy now could have asked the others why they weren't happy and spoke up for them.  Do you think that maybe these people who voted for a union were never heard just pushed aside?  Maybe management thought they would go away if they got frustrated enough.  STA has some of the same people that worked for Laidlaw.

Also as far as getting rid of a manager, why can't it be to change things so that everyone is happy?  Make is so that management cannot make life miserable for others.

As I said in my other blog "for the undecided", things are changing for Bus Drivers.  We all deserve enormous respect.

One other thing.  In regards to Roger and Robin, they are good people.  They are doing a job, yes, but they are not there to twist someone's arm.  It is everyone's decision.  So what if they work for the teamsters.  It's a job just like anyone else does.  Why can't the regular joe get a break by having someone to defend them?  The teamsters work for the people not corporations.  Maybe if you are a union person, you should go to a monthly meeting to see what your dues accomplish.  If your not, I would be willing to talk with you more if you would like to catch up with me some day.

Hope this helps.  Donna

This is such a great

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. It is the old what goes around comes around routine.
