let me start by saying i was not for the union at all before. i guess i was stupid i had a lot of faith and trust with my management i really cared about them and always thought they had everyones best intrest at heart.i was like what the heck is everyones problem????? i respected management and would defend them whenever someone said something mean about them i thought i had a great boss employee relashionship i didnt get any special treatment if that is anyones first thought....but i would go to work do my job never be late or call out sick and still have not done that yet. i did miss 5 weeks of work when i had my 5 th baby but went right back to work and even sometimes up with a new baby all night  still was never late. i NEVER  had problem with  the schools or my bosses this is now my third school year and up untill now have never been in troubel or written up etc..... we had a issue with a unfair route switch i shut my mouth and tried to make the best of it...we discussed the new route and i was clear about the fact i couldnt do a am shuttle that was once on that route before i was told i was all set and they didnt put that on my route ....welll two weeks of school went by and dont you know thay said i had to do it and did not have a choice.so i filed a grivence.not whole point to this is now all of a sudden i have been written up and now as of friday i was suspended from work .....with pay and they would not tell me the reason why.they said i had to have my union leader there to tell me the reason..ok so why can they suspend me without a union leader there??? but notbe abel  tell me the reason why without him?????? has anyone else had a experince like this????i am so upset

Debbie V. I wished I had

Debbie V. I wished I had found this forum sooner, In October 2008 I was fired for being in a rear end collison, no one was on my bus and no one was hurt, I tried looking for help via my union no help, I tried writing the company and asked to be be given special provision like it states in the Drivers Manual, but was givin known, There have been accidents at the terminal was drivers fell asleep, and hit people they still drive and have a job, I tapped a car, I was out on a charter and the charter ran later then planned, I called my terminal and asked if they had a driver who could cover my second school and there was no one available, so I am trying to get to my school on time when an elderly woman cut me off, I had no one on my bus and no one was hurt, I called in to the terminal to report the accident, they thought I had backed into something and asked if I could proceed which I found strange since we are not suppose to back up the bus, once they realized I had hit someone, safety arrived I was removed from my bus driven back to my terminal and sent home. I have driven buses that didnt run correctly with no lights, I have driven buses with 65 students in the inner city with no moniters. I have not worked since and have tried to reapply because when I drove I made sure every child got home and slept, and because of a policy, I have no job, does anyone know if this policy has been retracted in New York State,?

Debbie, Buffalo New York

Fired for being Pro Union,

Fired for being Pro Union, other wise being human is a crime also. Check this out.

How fair is it to be fired for being human, for having a slip of the tungue. Yes, I said the B.S. word in front of 7th & 8th graders who have  said a lot of worse words including the F word. It was a route that has been written up by my self and the regular driver as well as other drivers before her. Always the same kids The School suspends them for a week and they do the samre thing. Other wise nothing was really done to these kids. Yes I said the B S word in front of them after they caused a unsafe situation and then at one of the Drop Off Stops, these same kids decided to run along side the bus as I started to pull away, were the parents made aware of these students actions, somehow I doubt it, but mom and dad get on the phone and say how dare that driver say the B S word in front of my angel. The Middle School asked that I don't drive any of there routes again. They did not ask for my termination.

I was a Stand-By driver at Hodgkins, Illinois First Student. I admited my faults did as I was asked by management wrote a incident report, wrote a more thurough report on a legal pad. It was my only mistake on a school bus. I have never had a preventable accident, I have never hit a student. I never got lost, Always new where I was going and how to get there safely and expediately. Never left a Charter Customer wondering where am I. I always gave the customer my cell phone number as a just in case.

Unlike others, yes who did get fired, after they had many mistakes and then three preventable accidents including running over a child, that was not supervised properly by its parent. There has been another incident where a Driver and monitor were terminated only after FOX NEWS brought it to the attention of a local High School, that these people were still working after that High School asked for there termination. They were caught being verbally and physically abusive by a phone video camera. There is one person who had three preventable accidents with Laidlaw, just prior to First Students buy out. First Student knows about it. He still works there as a Stand By Driver and helps in the dispatch office!

I did try the Peer Reviw Program, that was a mistake. Two Managers, and three drivers on the assembled committee with the operations manager running the meeting and the terminal contract manager, the one who terminated me, also present. The three Drivers two who are totally against a Union, one of which throgh his life has qualified for the special olympics. And the third with the video on hand no matter what I did or said I was wrong. Yet, every time I have requested a copy of the findings of the Peer Review Committee, once written and twice verbally, I have not received a copy of that document. I was notified by phone by the operations manager, that the peer review committee findings upheld managements decision. If thats true, it is no wonder, they were saving there own butts. I guess the only mistake that really counted inthe eyes on management, I was Pro Union and was in the position as the person leading the Union effort.

John,   Don't use that your

John,

Don't use that your pro union for being fired, take a little responsibilty for your actions you messed up it happens your not perfect nobody is.

Obviously you are not using

Obviously you are not using your real name, at least I am not hiding behind a fake name. I admit my faults, and always have. I have never said that I am perfect. However, I don't use a name of a Whiskey Bottle for my name or is that where you hide your pride, in a bottle of Jack Daniel's?

I never denied my mistake,

I never denied my mistake, but the actions of management was extreme compared to other actions that were taken by management on people who professed to be against the formation of a Union. Other wise the persons that professed to be against the formation of a Union, have been shown more leaniancy than I. They were allow many mistakes and after a third preventable accident with in 2 years, is when thay were fired, I just made 1 (one) mistake with 1 (one) preventable accident with in 7 years, and that was just prior to F/S buy out of Laidlaw.

I was the person leading the prounion effort within the last year, and the employees were showing a turn to the Prounion position. How better for management to slow down or derail the the Prounion effort, then to remove the person standing and leading the way. To take out the leader, in hopes that there would not be anyone willing to pick up the pieces. I maybe gone, but the effort still goes on!

Unfair treatment, I know all

Unfair treatment, I know all about it. I was a Stand By driver in Hodgkins where there are quite a few people that still are blinded by management, and they think that management has their back. I really cannot discuss my case as of yet, due to my looking into legal action, but I can say is this. We are not the only ones being treated differently, from what I have been told and am finding out, it is happening accross all of North America at First Student and Durham/Stock locations. It will have to take a few people to stand up and throw a few TEA Crates in to the bay, for these two Brit based companies to realize, we do have rights not to be discriminated against. No matter the reason.
