Hope everyone has a great summer! This time of year is when things wind down.
I am still busy at the yard and still hear about things that are happening. Bus driving as we all know it will be changing even more as times goes by.
Stay in touch people. Share your info. It would be greatly appreciated.

Out of work here and out of
Out of work here and out of a job. FS lost their contract with the district and doesn't have any openings close by so we are all out of luck unless we want to work for an anti union company!
If you have a contract,
If you have a contract, check the wording and if the Union has any agreements with the District or claot with the district. There have been times that companies who take over contracts are required to hire experienced Teamster Drivers in order to obtain the contract. 2006 Baltimore and another time in Seattle, Washington.
Nope. The district is taking
Nope. The district is taking the lowest responsible bidder. We kept stressing RESPONSIBLE at the dostrict board meetings but they wouldn't hear of it. So now we just sit and wait for the new company to call a hand full of us.....maybe.
Sorry to hear it, Gator
Sorry to hear it, Gator Girl. When our location lost some of the largest accounts (pre union) it just about cut us in half. Most of those drivers living in that area went to work for the other company and seem to be doing just fine. So don't give up hope. Half a loaf is better than none.
If they need to hire a lot of you guys I am sure it wouldn't take long for you to organize;)
Come to South Jersey. You might like it here. It won't pay as much but it won't cost nearly as much as to live here as it does in LI.
This man has a nabit of
This man has a nabit of closing his doors and leaving the district in a learch. He did it 2 times to 2 different districts. He then changes the company name a little and opens up for business.
I hear ya about the 1/2 a loaf is better than none. I'll take the half loaf! But He isn't willing to chance it with us.
Moving is definately an option!
Sorry to hear. I'm sure
Sorry to hear. I'm sure there are still ways to keep jobs and still work to make things better. I am finding out that customers are not always happy with First. They have made comments like "there is no customer service with First". Some, I repeat, some management need to have "charm school" classes to learn how to deal with the public. We as drivers are always told to be courteous when dealing with the public. After all without them we don't have a job.
I would assume that in your state the districts take the lowest bid. Is this how they lost the contract? If so we have a company here also that does the same thing. They come in, underbid, offer them the world and give them nothing.
Good luck gatorgirl.
