Hyannis Mass First Student

The drivers in Hyannis are looking for information from fellow drivers through-out New-England. They are being told lots of mis-information such as, No First Student location Union or nonunion got a pay increase this year. They would be very interested in hearing from other drivers out there about some of the things that have been negotiated into your contract.  Any information would help them.  Things such as seniority being enforced and when it is not followed there are consequences.  Pay increases for line rates and charter rates longevity pay, attendance boneses, affordable health care, bereavement leave paid,  Paid for all time worked every last minute!!!!!    For this group it is not about pay but more about respect and seniority and being treated fairly like they are professional drivers and not children.  They are also being told that they will be paying union dues as soon as they vote yes. So information on the process of election to proposals being done and ratification would  help.

Thank you for this beautiful

Hello Hyannis.  I work in

Hello Hyannis.

I work in Salem,NH.  I have been a teamster since 1998.  It was the best decision we ever made.  I can say that originally we thought maybe it wasn't a great idea.  I can tell you that if you asked my drivers that were here when we started in 98 they would 100 % agree that "Thank God We did".

We did get a guaranteed pay raise this year.  Over 5 year drivers got .50 cent raises.  Some drivers who fell into other categories, got raises over a $1.00.  Sorry I can't give specifics right now but I left my contract information at work.  I am the steward and I travel with alot of information on me.  Sometimes it is easier to leave it at work where I have easy access.

I understand that this is not so much an issue at your workplace.  I would like to tell you how we have become respected drivers over the years instead of numbers.  We respect seniority in our terminal.   We are treated fairly since we have a negotiated contract.  No one can go into the office and ask for special favors "because they need the money" or want to do the job.  We have set up a fair process for assigning work.  I must say that in the beginning there were lots of grievances filed for unfair practices.  Over time, our terminal has become a workplace where every driver can walk into the office and speak to the boss and resolve issues just by talking.  If there ever is an issue that can't be resolved because "the company won't allow it" we then grieve it with the company.  Our terminal is so comfortable to work at, that we have people call on a regular basis to try to transfer to us.  We have a driver in every seat.  I admit there still needs to be some "tweaking" but that's what we aim for each and every contract.

We have paid holidays, monthly bonuses, longevity pay, and we get overtime pay. We have great, affordable health insurance provided by the teamsters.  Many of my drivers have signed on this year because the price was right. We get paid for our hours worked, not how the company says our runs should be paid by.

We have a voice and support from the teamsters.  Rules and regulations change yearly and more is expected of us. We are professionals that deserve the utmost respect.  We are under the magnifying glass daily with "Big brother" watching every move we make.  You would think that they would now how valuable we are.  Without drivers, monitors, and mechanics the place wouldn't run.  Without all of us, there is no First.  We are the carriers of the future.  We have precious cargo to care for.  Shouldn't we get the respect we greatly deserve?

Union makes us stronger.  We the people are the union.  Divided we beg, United we bargain.

Any questions feel free to ask.  We are here to support all of you.

Good Luck

Donna LeMay Salem NH

 THANK YOU DONNA I THINK

THANK YOU DONNA I THINK THIS WILL BE VERY HELPFULL. I LOVE DIVIDED WE BEG,UNITED WE  BARGAIN. WE ARE TRYING TO STAY STRONG AGAINST A FEW BULLIES AT THE YARD

THANK YOU

LYN LAMBERT HYANNIS MA

Your welcome.  Anything you

Your welcome.  Anything you need to ask, ask away.

Hearing from yards that have been teamsters for years helps.

I have been waiting for all of you to finally join us.  Don't let anyone bully you.  They basically don't know what they are bulling you about.  They can't see the benefit of being union.  Teamsters work for the working class people.  They work hard to get the benefits that everyone deserves not to mention respect.

Stay strong.  We are all here for you!

Donna

We are currently about 1/2

We are currently about 1/2 way through our first contract.  We got some things we wanted yet we lost out on others.  The first contract is the hardest because the company holds most of the cards in negotiations.

Here are some of the highlights of our contract.

All drivers and monitors get a raise every year of the contract.

All drivers who qualify (attendance and accidents) get monthly and yearly bonuses.

We got an increase in the company match 401k

Additional leave days

Some drivers got as much as $4.50 an hour raise on certain assignments.  The average driver saw an increase between $1 and $2 on same assignments.

So whoever is saying union locations didn't get raise, you can tell them they are full of crap.
