First Transit Drivers at Savannah College of Art & Design Choose Teamsters

Friday, November 6, 2009

Bus drivers employed by First Transit at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) voted overwhelmingly for Teamster representation on Nov. 5. With a margin of 27-2 the drivers spoke loud and clear that a Teamsters contract is the way towards a more secure job and better future at work.

Teamsters Local 728 currently represents nearly 700 First Group workers throughout the State of Georgia. Local 728 filed the petition for the election only three weeks after First Transit acquired the contract to service the SCAD campus.

"We stood together throughout the campaign, wore our buttons, and finally came out to vote. Now First Transit knows that we are serious about being Teamsters. We are so proud!" Edith Dunlap, First Transit SCAD driver.

“We have established a track record of organizing First Group workers. In recent years we have negotiated good first contracts with this company and look forward to helping to bring workplace justice to the SCAD First Transit workers,” said Randy Brown, President of Local 728.
