With yesterday’s big victory at Durham in Kansas City, we have reached a major milestone! Since we started organizing with the Teamsters across the country in 2006, 25,000 bus workers at First Student, Durham, Baumann and other companies have joined the Teamsters.

School bus drivers and monitors with Durham School Services in Kansas City, Missouri, have voted overwhelmingly, 203-63, to join Teamsters Local 838, sending a strong message to the company that they are standing united for safety, respect and proper treatment on the job.

Elizabeth Rhodes, a Durham driver in Kansas City, dedicated the following poem to her co-workers who will be voting in their Teamster election on February 24. She wrote this poem after being forced to attend a mandatory anti-union meeting by her Durham managers. This poem is for all the school bus workers who are standing united and demanding that they be treated with the dignity and respect that all human beings - that all school bus workers - deserve.
