Hi I haven't been here in awhile. Been really busy with Negotiations. For those of you who have not met me I have been a Teamster for 10 years. I guess I can say that I am one of the pioneers for Bus Drivers becoming teamsters.
I want to share with you some of my feelings about being a teamster. I have let some of my co-workers recently, make me lose sight of what that means to me.
I am proud to be a teamster. When it comes down to working a job "money" is not always the important issue. Mostly new people who do my job, have no idea how it is and how it was. I have respect, I have benefits, I have job security. Some people have no idea what job security is. They think that sucking up to the boss is the way to go. They are not teamsters. When the day comes that the boss comes in and doesn't like the suck up anymore and his cousin needs a job, that driver will wish they had been a teamster.
Other people that make more money than me due to state prevailing wages can kiss my butt. Some day when I make more than them because they haven't gotten a raise in five years, and they still have no respect or job security, will come to me to ask for help. They are the ones who don't care about the children. They only care about the pay check.
I will still have a job that I love! I will still have my dignity. It's my choice. I know that I have made a good one. The people that I work with that say "it's still not enough" can go work with the people that say we make more. When they come back begging for their job because they found out the grass is not always greener won't have a spot to take. I have all my driver's. We are a full terminal of great driver's who get and deserve all of the benefits they have. We are well respected and take care of our children. We are Teamsters and damm proud of it!
