Coast to Coast Voted YES

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

WOW, what a day it was October 22nd when 3 bus locations voted YES for Teamster representation!  Whether you were in Jacksonville, FL at the Durham bus yard, in Wichita, KS at the First Student sites, or located at the Woodburn, OR First Student yard, workers voices were heard.  The 1100 plus workers in 3 different areas of the country came together to form their union.

It was a historic day for all of these workers being part of this huge movement to Drive Up the Standards!  With Jacksonville having over 300 workers, Wichita with nearly 800 workers, and Woodburn with just under 50 these bus workers are joining the other 30,000 plus who have choosen to unionize their bus yards over the past 4 years.

Jacksonville workers you definitely sent a clear message to all of the other Durham locations wanting to unionize.  Your location along with some other Durham yards, who now have Teamster representation, are gaining momentum the same way First Student workers did beginning in 2006 and that is to prove there is strength in numbers!

As bus workers voted from coast to coast on October 22nd to stand up and be unified, it sends a message to other bus workers in all locations.  It helps them to realize that they too can be Teamsters!
