I always find it interesting how people true nature comes out in the end. This is for people and for companies. Take for instances the video that Durham sent to all of you this week in an attempt to scare some of your into voting against yourselves and your fellow employees. There are several questions and points I would like to bring out.
First, there was nothing positive in the video. This was meant to purely scare that heck out of you to get you to vote no. There was no "this is why we think it's better" it just stated things that would get you to check no in the box. The company doesn't really care about you they just don't want to have to deal with you as adults.
Secondly, you need to set back and think about the cost. Making a video like this that is specific to Central York is VERY VERY expensive $$$$$$. Were was this money when they froze your wages and took your bonuse? They seem to have plenty of money to throw away when they want to trample on your rights to organize and have a say at you job. If y\they could afford to do this they could have afforded to give you your bonuses.
Thirdly, you all got the letter from Todd and Kathy that said they would never lie to you. You should be asking them that if everyone wages were frozen and everyone bonuses were taken why is this not the case. ALL the yards that had contracts got their raises and the company didn't fold. Ask them about the raises this last Fall for Durham site in Poughkeepsie, NY - Middletown, NJ - Tinton Falls, NJ - Jacksonville, FL. These were all sites where the workers there were forming their unions. They gave them raises because they wanted to keep them from organizing. But Durham didn't think you deserved a raise because they make the rules and deal the cards.
Lastly, if you watched the video you should think about what was being said to make you concerned. They wanted to make you think that a "Third Person" was going to be taking you over like an alien creature. You all should realize by now that you are and would be the union. No one is going to negotiate anything without you beinmg there and with out you all voting on it. So what you should do is go back and put your or your fellow workers and friends names in there everytime Durham says union in the DVD. Kind of brings a new meaning to the whole thing doesn't it! They are say they don't have to deal with you, bargin with you, or listen to you. Seems like that's all Durham seems to be able to do - Not Listen!
I don't know if it's just me and me being brought up in a small town with a very close family but I don't think it's fair. Nor do I think it's right not to treat everyone who works for you equally and fairly! I was always told to strive to always be better but not on the backs of others. The old proverbial "Do unto others" that was drilled into me since childhood.
Some of you got concerned that things that were happening near the end of the school year. The yard was tense because this is such an important decision. You I want to form a union with my fellow employees and make things better or am I satisfied with the "Take-it or Leave-it" attitude you get from Durham. You should also look at who was spreading the rumors and making everyone's life miserable at the yard. Wasn't the people supporting you all forming a union.
Then look are the things that were being spread around the yard:
1.) Spring Grove is already paying dues - Lie!
2.) That you can't talk to the manager after you have a union - Lie!
3.) That Spring Grove has to go to CT to do their contract - Lie!
4.) That Spring Grove wanted to get ride of the union already - Lie!
Among these and others that were being passed around the yard they are as truthful as syaing "Durham really cares about us" - Lie! Consider were these statements came from and consider were they are right now.
I really hope everyone is having a great summer. I didn't think it would be this hot here and feel like they moved the state of PA to Florida. It's been really great meeting all of you and I you will always be part of my extented family. Now we just wait for you to become members of the Teamster Family on Wed. My name is Kelly and I am from the SG lot. PLEASE don't fall for the lies !!! They tried to scare us at SG the same way and we stood STRONG!!! I am tired of hearing ALL the lies people are spreading about us at SG.
NO we are not paying dues, that will not happen UNTIL we have a contract
NO we are NOT going to CT to do our contract
No we DO NOT want to get rid of the union
We did have some people who still try to make to union out to be a big money eating monster, BUT now I feel that since we had our meeting in June that the people who were still against us have realized we are trying to make a change. Our first negotiating meeting will be July 21, 2010.
I know some of the people at your lot have been negative about the union BUT you can prevail! GOOD LUCK on wednesday July 14, 2010. ALL of us at SG will be praying for a win.
No matter how this vote
No matter how this vote turns out, we all need to respect everyone's decision. We all had to make a decision that was right for us and our families. My decision might not be good for you and vice versa. Hopefully, when all this is over and we know the outcome (no matter what it is), we can all go back to work August 25 and be civil again. No more childish behavior. Bottomline we all have to work together. Both sides union and nonunion have done and said things that cannot be taken back. Forgiveness and respect should be our new motto for the 2010-2011 school year.
I do believe good changes are coming to Durham with our new CEO. His letter surprised me! Actually admitting the company's wrong doing. Nothing is perfect in life, no company, no union. To me though, that was the first step in the right direction, admitting where it went wrong. Second step is giving us our raises. West York and Dallastown already know what they are getting next school year. That's good.
I hope everyone is enjoying their time off. I always look at summer as a attitude adjuster and the new school year a new beginning. Let bygones be bygones and start fresh. That is how I intend to start the new school year. Hopefully, everyone else will too.

i still dont know way we need a union we as a group can ask durham for the same things that this union can do. the years of the union are over and they are coming after us becuase of this. do you really want to give your money tothese people they are only trying to get money from us now that they have lost some big contracts

The days of the union are not over!!! we at sg are proof! did you ever buy girl scout cookies? or join boy scouts? well they are an organization JUST like the teamsters. they need money to help you learn and grow!!! durham has taken away our rights to be fairly treated,and paid. i for one ALONG with my fellow brothers and sisters at sg want respect, FAIR wages, and end to the favortism that has plagued our lot for years. we are ready for a change and the local 776 is there to make sure it happens fairly and honestly, because durham won't stand up and do what is right for us on their own!!!!!!

Y'all fought a good fight, but in the end the union lost by more than a 2 to 1 margin. It's now time to move on. This campaign was long and hard on all of us. It's time to reconcile relationships that might have been fractured during all of this and join together. The new school year starts in just 4 weeks, let's allow this to be a clean start for all of us, together.
